I've downloaded the WDP 2009.1 Demo version to test it but I can't seem to get it to run with my CS2. I'm using a crossover cable from the CS2 to the laptop and have set the IP on the CS2 to automatic. The CS2 seems to connect to the laptop, but when I start WDP 2009 Demo it disconnects. (i.e. it says "a network cable is unplugged")
Am I doing anything wrong? I have the latest update on the CS2 (1.1.3)
Thanks in advance for any help
Elliott
Hi Elliott,
when using a cross-over cable you have to set in the PC and the CS2 the IP configuration to manual and select IP addresses manually (when using a cross-over cable the automatic settings will only work when your PC is a server with installed DHCP server service).
Regards
Markus
Hello Markus.
Thanks for your response. I did set the PC and my CS2 to manual IP addresses and they do connect, but only for a short time. Approx. 30 seconds. Then I get the error message "a network cable is unplugged". Is there something I need to do while the two are connected to keep them communicating?
Thanks again,
Elliott
Hi Elliott,
The message "a network cable is unplugged" is displayed by Windows and not by Win-Digipet? Does the green LED at the backset of the CS2 still glow when the message appears? I think you have there a problem with the cable.
Regards
Markus
Hi Elliot,
i suppose the message about the unplugged cable must be a windows system message. to me it looks like an address problem. Please check your addresses at the PC and CS2 again. I'll give you an example here:
PC:
Address: 192.168.10.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
CS2:
Address: 192.168.10.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: we don't need a gateway here
If your PC has a second network connection (e.g. for connect to the internet) it is very important both networks have differen network addresses. Normally on this connection there is an DHCP servic at your router to provide network addresses to your network. Please check this again.
Plese be also sure there is no firewall working on your PC!
If everything looks allright open a command line window and test the connection with a "ping" to the CS. Before this won't working WinDigiPet will not be able to connect to the CS.
regards
Bernd

Hello Markus,
The LED glows green for a short while then turns off. I guess I need to find the problem between PC and CS2 first.
Thanks,
Elliott

Hello Bernd,
I noticed that the last number in the IP addresses is different.
This is what I have:
PC
Address: 192.168.1.53
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
CS2
Address: 192.168.1.53
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
I did make sure that the firewall was turned off
I'm not too computer savvy, How do you "ping" the CS2?

Elliott
Hi Elliot,
you have an address conflict. Please change the address at the CS to 192.168.1.54 255.255.255.0 The green lamp indicates the basic connection between the devices, i think the interface is going down in result to the address conflict.
It could be a cable problem also (as Markus described)
The ping test you can perform like this:
open a DOS box --> start --> run --> type in: command
DOS box opens now
at the prompt (eg. C:>\..\..) type "ping <address of the cs>"
watch for the result, in case of success you'll se an answer with packet roundtrip times.
But to do this it is necessar to resolve the address and/or cable problem
regards
Bernd

Hello Bernd,
Success, I have communication between the CS2 and the PC now. The ping worked fine, Thank you.
I did have to change the address on the PC to 192.168.1.54 and left the CS2 with 192.168.1.53.
I still have a problem getting WDP 2009 Demo to work though. When I start it, it says the following:
"Marklin Central Station 2 antwortet nicht mehr!
Neuininitalisierung des digitalsystems notwendig!"
I'm assuming that I need to reset the systemeinstellung...with the IP of the CS2?

Hi Elliot,
Congratulations, now we are on half of our way. You have to set up the connection between windigipet and the CS. please open the wdp system settings (in german systemeinstellungen) an look for the digital systems. Here you choose the CS2. You also put the IP address, you've given to the CS before, in here. After a restart of WDP everything should work.
Have fun. Greetings from Berlin to ? 8)

Hello Bernd,
Sorry I couldn't respond last night, my ISP provider shut down for maintenance at midnight. But thank you for all of your help! I still couldn't get WDP to work though. I wonder if I need to start the gateway?
Anyway, I have to go to work now and I will try again this afternoon.
Greetings from Hawaii to Berlin!
Aloha,
Elliott
Hello Elliott,
Yes, you have to check the checkbox in the IP setup of the CS2, in English I think it is called "Gateway".

Markus
Thank you Markus,
I will try that when I get home from work today.

Hello Markus,
Success! I checked the gateway box and started WDP Demo. It worked!
Thanks to you and Bernd I can now play with the program and all of its functions.
Do you think the English version of WDP 2009 will be out by mid September? I'm planning to be in
Germany at that time and would like to purchase it then.
