Hello.
I made a big mistake today, I made a backup of my WDP to the original USB-stick that contains the original WDP 2015. Does this mean I have lost something, or is the USB-stick still usable as before?
Regards,
Per.
PS: I actually thought the USB-stick was "read-only"...?
Hi Per,
As long as you did not delete anything: no problem.
Only the files and folders we put on the stick are read only.
Indeed you can use the stick for the backup. But for me I would not suggest this, just to separate license stick and backup data.
Regards
Markus
Hello Per,
as Markus said, you cannot delete WDP on the stick, only your own data. So the disaster is not so big. :-)
Hello both.
OK, thank you. No, I did not put the backup there on purpose, I had just forgotten to exchange the USB-stick with the one that I do use for backup.
Regards,
Per.
Hi Per,
just as a warning for the future. I asked Markus about the details. Actually you can delete the WDP data. But if you try to do so by mistake you will get a warning. If you ignore the warning the WDP files are lost.
I'm sure you won't do so but I thought this is an important information for other users, too.
Hello.
OK. It was a pure accident. And I only made a backup from within the WDP. I got no warnings, but I am not sure the backup-routine will show any warnings, as it is, in fact, meant to over-Write any existing files..?
Anyway, I will be more careful in the future, og course....
Best regards,
Per.
Hello Per,
we are talking about two different things. You mean the backup (= your data) and I WDP itself (the program). You can't overwrite any WDP files with a backup because they have different names. The only way to destroy WDP on the stick is to access the stick in the explorer, select the files and delete them. You might say nobody does this. Well, some do. :o
Hello.
All OK...!
Per.
Hello again.
Today I wanted to install WDP in my second computer, for ease of work. The installation started, but after a while I got the message that a file or folder is damaged and cannot be read. So I am not able to install it again. So surely something has been changed on the USB stick when I accidentally did a backup to it.
What can I do ?
Regards,
Per.
Hello Per,
please make a screenshot of the sticks content within the Explorer for the sticks main directory and the directory Installer\Setup_deutsch.
Regards
Markus
Hello.
Here they are.
Regards,
Per.
Hi Per,
for me the content seems to be fine. Only additional files caused by the backup, but not missing original files. I´ll have to talk to Dr. Peterlin tomorrow.
Regards
Markus
Hello.
OK, thank you.
Regards,
Per.
Hi Per,
in the meantime try to install again as administrator. Look for the setup.exe on the stick, make a right click on it an select "Run as Administor".
Hi.
In fact, I did install as administrator. I know this from before...... :) :)
Regards,
Per.
Hi Per,
delete all files in the root directory beside the tree files starting with SETUP.xxx
try also directly the setup in the \INSTALLER\SETUP_DEUTSCH directory
If no sucess then a fiile is corrupt. To avoid to send back your stick to me, I could send a new CAP and setup file
regards
Hello.
I tried this. Still the same problem.
A thought: I did have WDP 2012 on this PC earlier, but I have un-installed it (using Windows un-install routine) and deleted manually the rest of the files from WINDIGIPET directory, and also the directory itself. Could there be a problem here..?
Regards,
Per.
PS: I do not have more computers to try this on, sorry... :)
Hi again.
Still no luck. What is next step?
Regards,
Per
Hi Per,
I will prepare a new setup file and put it in the dropbox.
You get later a download link by mail, but give me a little bit time
Hello !
OK, thank you !

Per.
Hello.
I downloaded the file. I tried to reply to your email. but my reply gets rejected from your server. Don't know why. I downloaded the file, what is next?
regards,
Per.
Hello,
unzip the file in a new folder and run setup
Hello again.
Thank you. I have installed it, works fine. So something must have been corrupted on the USB-stick.
Thanks again !
Best regards,
Per-
Hello !
Unbelievable, I managed to do the same mistake again today! I did a backup (from WDP start-center) to the original USB-stick. I saw the mistake at once, but too late.... I do not have any need right now to install on more computers, so it is probably OK. Or should I do any changes (just in case, for the future...) ??
Best regards,
Per.
