Update to Version 9

I just purchased Win Digipet 8.1 and upgraded to version 8.41. I could not wait until version 9 is released as I have a time limit to finish the model railroad layout currently under construction. Will I be able to upgrade to version 9 later? And if so will it be an upgrade or will I have to purchase a new version? Thank you for your help.
